MEET THE FOUNDER of MEYERS GREEN STEEL HOMES
Meyers Green Steel Home's founder is, Mark Meyers. Some people would say, "Mark is a walking STEEL dictionary". Mark has a solution to build most any structure with STEEL. Mark has been DESIGNING details and creating innovative building solutions with steel, for over 25 years. Mark's goal is to design quality structures that will last a LIFETIME.
Mark's JOURNEY began when he was a teenager. He started supervising work when he was 24. His first large project was the, “Shriners Hospital for Children”, in Lexington, Kentucky. This hospital was built using all steel trusses and all steel framed walls. After completing this project, he started moving from state to state following large steel projects. Mark's travels brought him to San Diego, where he worked as a general superintendent for large companies. Marks specialty became steel framing hospitals, schools, prisons, and government sites. Mark couldn’t get the idea out of his head. We use steel to build things we want to be strong and safe and last a lifetime. Why not use steel for our own homes.
Mark STARTED building STEEL framed homes in Northern California in the 90’s. This was a difficult task with no literature and past experience. This house would be the first of its kind in Northern California. We decided to go ahead and buy a lot and build a home. We had to find an engineer, this engineer needed to open minded, innovative, and extremely flexible. Next, we had to prove to the state of California, that a steel truss could carry a snow load with minimum deflection. To do this, we built knee walls approximately 3 feet high. We built 20’ long trusses, out of all 20 gauge steel. Then, we had a cinderblock company deliver ten pallets of cinder blocks. Several engineering firms as well as a representative from the state of California filmed this process. We slowly loaded trusses and documented the amount of deflection. The trusses performed better than we had hoped, and that was the beginning of steel trusses on our homes. The first home we built was a learning process. The local building department had no documentation or prior experience for the case study. The fire department and wood industry were watching closely. The steel homes were drawing a lot of attention, the next several homes we built were all featured in newspapers or we are on the news and even made a magazine. Some of these homes are featured on this web site.
After several years the steel industry started taking notice, they came to Mark and asked him if he would be interested in running a class. This class would TRAIN employees for companies as well contractors who wanted to start building steel framed homes. The facility was a large warehouse where two homes were built. Mark TRAINED future employees and contractors to build with STEEL. These skills include all aspects of steel framing. The main areas were building floor systems, framing walls and trusses. The classes ranged from 7-20 students. Once the crews were trained, they would go to the job sites and actually use their newly learned skills to build. (see consulting from our homepage)
CONSULTING for companies and training their employees has become very popular. Many companies want to learn to build with STEEL.
Our most recent CONSULTING project in the Great North West was for," Miranda Homes". Mark has been training their employees in many aspects of STEEL construction, since the end of 2007, through the beginning of 2010.
Mark spent several years TROUBLESHOOTING for large companies and many hours on subdivisions that were failing. His job was to turn the subdivisions around and make them successful. While, turning these jobs around Mark DESIGNED and CREATED NEW building systems. These new designs and systems have created big money savings for companies and clients. Mark has been designing and creating details in STEEL for years. The designs are created to be more cost effective, faster to build. Building commercial structures became popular due to the numerous advantages with STEEL. Three-story, Four-story, and Seven-story all steel condominiums are some of Mark's commercial background. Some of these can be viewed on this web site.
